Canon: Darker Than Black
Character: Yin
Timeline: Middle of the Final episode of Season 1. Moments after leading Hei to Amber.
Personality:
There are two parts to Yin as we know her. There is the young girl known as Kirsi which is what she was before her parents death and the doll she became after. As a little girl, she was very intuitive about the world around her which only seemed to become stronger considering her blind state. She always knew when things were changing around her, even able to feel the presences of a full moon just by the feel of the light cascading over her late at night.
But, as intuitive as she was, she was also a child that easily got frustrated with things she didn't understand or threatened the sense of normalcy in the world around her. She would snap at her piano teacher when he tried to explain something she didn't understand or at her mother when she felt like she was being babied because of her age or lack of sight.
And like any child, she did lash out when upset. Most notably, when she sensed her teacher and mother growing close after her father's death. The discovery sent her racing out of the house and into oncoming traffic, resulting in the death of another parent so soon after the last one. Not long after that, she disappeared.
When she resurfaced a few years later, Kirsi was now Yin. An emotionless medium known as a doll that could not make decisions for herself or even act without being told. All she could do was what her programing dictated and in this instance, that was simply to observe and gather intel for her group while keeping herself alive.
At first, she was just that. Emotionless and served a purpose. But, as time passed, she slowly started to display other characteristics she should not have been able to. Yin would act without being told, even deciding to show up on Hei's door step when a friend of his tried to smuggle another doll away to save it from being sold. The act actually shocked Hei and she stepped in to actually try and help another without any direction.
Later, she even displayed the desire to stay with Hei, even refusing to leave when she was told she could and actively making the choice to stay. For the first time, she was actually asked to make a choice for herself, stay with Hei and be his partner as Yin or go home and become Kirsi again. It's the acknowledgement from Hei that they were partners that made her choose to stay with him and support the contractor in whatever he might want to do.
This leads to her slowly starting to give small displays of emotion whether its a small smile or actually giving someone a hug to show how much she cares about them. or even crying. They're small displays of affection and emotion, but still ones that defy the thought that she shouldn't be able to. Yin was changing.
Her biggest changes come around when she starts to remember bits and pieces of her past before she was a doll. The influence of those memories spark more interesting quirks within her. Her love and skill for the piano is remembered, making her gravitate towards one every once in awhile to play like she used to and even expressing emotion through the musical instrument despite her supposedly being unable to do so. Because of these memories, she even decides on her own to run away to try and make her heart move. Yin displays a desire to feel moved by emotion again like she was as a child and very slowly she starts to get that wish. However, the emotions she feels inside are still hard to reflect on the outside, giving way to only the slightest tell tales that there's more going on in her head than just what she was programed to do.
As for fears, Yin displays one. A fear of being left alone and at the point where it nearly looked like she would be the only one of the team left, she called out to Hei, even guiding him back to her so she wouldn't be alone again. This fear is probably the result of a mix of her programing which dictates that she needs someone to give her a direction and her affection for Hei and wanting to be near him.

Abilities/Additional Notes:
As a doll, Yin has the ability to remove view by being in physical contact with water and a control over observer spirits which she can use to spy on anyone or anything in or near the water. This means any form of water. She can have her feet in a tub of water and be able to spy on things happening near a puddle on the opposite side of Tokyo if she needed too. Yin also uses this ability to compensate for her lack of sight in order to navigate the world around her.
She has also displayed the ability to silently communicate with other dolls that she's near. Otherwise, her only other notable skill is her ability to play the piano.

[For several moments there seems to be darkness. The bottom of a palm is shown before being pulled back. The next view the network is treated to is that of a teenager girl with silver hair and purple eyes just staring ahead. She was kneeling on the ground and from this angle anyone can see that she has her hand in a puddle and doesn't seem to notice.
Eventually her head turns towards the strange device in her hand. When she speaks, her voice is soft and emotionless.]
Hei.
Where is Hei.
[She falls silent for several moments as she waits for an answer. When Yin doesn't get one, she speaks again. ]
Where am I. Where is Hei.
Third-Person Sample:
When Yin came to she immediately knew something was wrong. First, she was on the ground and she didn't know how she got there. Second, she couldn't sense Hei or Amber nearby. Where were they? She spent several moments simply sitting there and listening to the world around her to try and figure out what was going on. There were things moving around.
Things were alive here.
But, Hells Gate had been silent. There was no life in that strange twisted place, so where was she? The silent doll turned her head slightly as she sensed a puddle of water within reach and dipped her fingers into its shallow depths. Immediately the world around her flared to life. Darkness gave way to a network of puddles, water ways and even a river. Further out was a lake. And… none of them were familiar.
Yin felt a faint sense of confusion and a spark of fear as she sent her specters out to cover every inch of the city she could reach. They kept on reporting back various forms of life from humans to animals. And… several that felt kind of like contractors but not at the same time. They felt otherworldly and strange. There was a faint frown tug at her lips as the intel she kept on getting simply did not make sense. And even more unnerving, she couldn't sense any other dolls near by. Her specters were the only ones in the city and that…Yin wasn't sure what to make of this.
What was going on here? What happened at the Gate? She played over everything that happened up until she woke up. They made their way through the maze of the Gate. They lost Mao. She lead the way to Amber and then she put her hand in a fountain to monitor what was going on around them. Amber and Hei started talking and then she woke up here. Yin replayed this several times in her mind, trying to understand how she went from there to where ever this was. Was this something to do with what was happening, or was this something completely different?
Yin needed answers and she needed to find Hei or at least someone that could tell her what was going on. There were people here so someone was bound to know how she got here. She had to know what was going on. There was so much at stake right now and she needed to be there. She needed…
A small specter pointed out an object next to the puddle. It was phone like and had a note pinned to it.
'Use this.'
She tilted her head a little and reached for it with her other hand. After setting it on her lap, she ran her fingertips over the screen and the buttons before sensing the machine coming to life. Maybe now she could get some answers.

Adstring Permissions Post
Aug. 29th, 2013 04:55 pmBecause of Yin's powers, there is a potential for either inadvertent spying or very purposeful spying if she's trying to find/figure something out. How? She uses water as a medium to send out little observation specters. Which... in canon only contractors and dolls can see. Not regular humans.
However, anyone in this city that can sense/see supernatural/spirit type things can potentially see them.
SO! This leads to the permissions thing.
1. Can Yin spy on your character accidentally/on purpose with her specters?
...Yeah that's really it.

1. Can Yin spy on your character accidentally/on purpose with her specters?
- A. What is the typical things she can expect to see?
- B. Are there things you do not want her to see?
...Yeah that's really it.
